 US military base contract to be ratified today despite lost election - Jan Tamas's appeal
Despite heavy losses in last week's Regional and Senate elections, the Czech government intends to have contract for US military base ratified today. The radar base, right outside Prague is pivotal to US NMD system for space militarization and control.
Parliament
scheduled to vote contract today and Senate on Thursday October 30.
Government wants to take advantage of outgoing Senators' vote, even
though they no longer represent the will of the Czech people. A silent
coup d'etat. A protest is scheduled tomorrow at 8:00 am outside the Parliament building in Prague and in front of Czech embassies throughout Europe.

WEEK OF CREATIVITY FOR THE WORLD MARCH FOR PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE
During this week more than 70 creatives from Europe and America met in Barcelona to plan the World March for Peace and Non-violence campaign, promoted by World Without Wars. This week will end with a little "march" across the streets of Barcelona as an exemple of the World March.
Painters, graphics, musicians, videomakers, informatic and communication experts,
translators and advertising experts from Spain, France, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Hungary and Chile met along this week to define the image and to begin organizing the first World March for Peace and Non-violence. The March will start from New Zeland on 2nd October (declared by UNO "international Day of Non-violence") 2009 and it will pass through more than 90 countries. It will reach Punta de Vacas, on the slopes of Aconcagua Mountain , on 2nd January 2010.
To end this creative week on Sunday 20th July the first memorial march will be done across the streets of Barcelona, making this town the first place to prepare the support for the Big March next year.
The starting point will be Plaza de Colón (on the las Golondrinas side) at 12.00 am, from where people will walk to Liceo subway station. The second step will reach Plaza Catalunya by subway, from where people will reach Arco de Triunfo by taxi and motorbikes. The march will cross Parque de la Ciudadela by foot and finally from Francia railway station it will arrive to Playa de La Barceloneta by bus. Here, the participants will end the march taking a bath in the sea at about 4.00 pm. All along the way there will be playful and informative activities. It is intended to be an example of what will happen on a large scale during the big World March for Peace and Nonviolence.
Anybody interested in taking part in this event this Sunday is welcome.

Europe for Peace Campaign third international conference ""Star Wars: myth or reality? The US missile shield from the perspective of long-term European security" took place this morning at the Czech Parliament. It was organized by the Humanist Movement and the League of Mayors Against the Radar who have been raising consciousness in the Czech Republic and abroad on the negative effects of the Czech government's decision to allow the US to build a military radar base in its territory against the will of 70% of its population, as part of their National Missile Defence plans.
International speakers invited were: Luisa Morgantini - Vice President of European Parliament, Giorgo Schultze - European spokesperson for New Humanism, Joanne Landy - co-director of US Campaign for Peace and Democracy, Jan Tamáš - Humanist Movement, spokesperson for Czech movement against radar base; Jan Neoral - League of Mayors Against Radar; Ivona Novomestská - spokesperson for Ne Základnám.
The conference organizers declared their satisfaction of the conference's outcome and considered the attendance of about 20 Czech Parliament members noteworthy. According the (Jan Tamas? Giorgio Schultze) three main results were achieved:
1. Establishing once and for all that the installation of a foreign military base in the Czech Republic is a European issue and not merely a local one.
2. That real security can only be achieved through peace and not through a more and more sophisticated and costly arms' race.
3. EU VP, Luisa Morgantini's, formal invitation to the women opposing the Czech radar base to a European Parliament audition on US bases in Europe during the month of Septmember.

On
July 9th a hearing about the U.S. space shield took place in the
European Parliament in Strasbourg, with interventions of Giorgio Schultze,
spokesperson of the campaign "Europe for peace", Jan Tamas,
spokesperson of the campaign against the Space Shield and leader of the protest
in Czech Republic as well as several MEPs.
Here
is the declaration read and signed during the meeting. During the next days
more signatories will be added and the declaration itself will be brought to
the international conference in Prague, on July 17, by Luisa
Morgantini, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

US Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice and Czech Foreign Affairs Minister, Karel
Schwarzenberg signed the hugely unpopular Star Wars radar deal
yesterday despite opposition of 70% of the Czech population and
thousands of Europeans.
In Wenceslas square 5.000 expressed their outrage at
the high-handedness of the anomalous right-wing government coalition,
which brings together Christian Democrats and Greens. In the words of Jan Tamas, "the
battle is just beginning! We do not want any American bases, Russian
bases or Chinese bases. We do not want foreign armies occupying our
territory. They have stepped on two thirds of this country's
population, they have disregarded the pleas of artists, sociologists,
academics, doctors and those who have fought for freedom in this
country but they will not stop us."
The Czech government decided to ignore the calls to wait for the new US
administration and to consult with the other 26 EU member States before
committing itself to hosting a US military base, part of the American
Missile Defence system, that is creating international tensions and
targeting the heart of Europe. The agreement must now be ratified by
the Czech Parliament and then signed by the President before becoming
effective. The Parliament is divided in two but Jan Tamas voiced
preoccupations that the US will buy those parliament members opposing the deal, tipping the scales in their favor.
The issue will be discussed today at 4:00 p.m. in the EU Parliament in Strasburg
at the "Why a USA Missile Shield in Europe" hearing where Jan Tamas
will be accompanied by Europe for Peace spokesperson Giorgio Schultze.
The following week, on July 17 at 11:00 a.m., there will be an anti-Star Wars conference in the Czech Parliament in Prague attended by European Parliament Vice President, Luisa Morgantini.

AFET MORE THAN 100 HOURS OF HUNGER STRIKE,
GIORGIO SCHULTZE, EUROPEAN SPEAKER FOR THE NEW HUMANISM,
DECLARES:
«I will continue with this nonviolent protest in order to denunce the silent menace of this new cold war, this insane rearmament race unleashed by the US plan that wants to install in the Czech Republic and in Poland, in the heart of Europe, military bases for the defense against missiles, that in fact are an attack weapon and the first step for the space militarization and control. This is happening under the accompliced silence of the governements, who draw up secret agreements and continue the negotiations with the US even with the opposition of the majority of the population.»
Giorgio Schultze takes the place of Jan Tamas and Jan Bednar from Prague, who stopped the hunger strike after 21 days, and meanwhile dozens of activists joined the protest starting with the fast from about 30 cities in the rest of Europe, United States and Australia.

- He partecipates to the permanent presidium in Piazza San Babila from 17.00 to 20.00 hour, where petition's signatures are collected in order to ask that the Czech radar base installation is submitted to a national referendum.
- He will intervene durino the national Demonstration for the Climate on June 7th in Milan, organized by Legambiente

Jan
Tamas and Jan Bednar will end their 21 day hunger strike on midnight of
June 2nd. Czech personalities will continue their battle against Star
Wars' in Prague on 24 hour symbolic fasts. In the rest of Europe, as
well as in Australia and the US, other hunger strikes are continuing.
European spokesperson for New Humanism, Giorgio Schultze has begun
an open ended hunger strike yesterday in Milan and is determined to take the issue to the European
Parliament. Protests continue in the 30 cities which have answered the
call from the heart of Europe.
